About
The Origins of Arevalo Counseling & Mentoring
When Arevalo Counseling & Mentoring was originally founded by my husband, Marvin, and I in 2016, we shared a straightforward vision: to establish a modern, deeply compassionate mental health practice built on genuine clinical excellence and individual empowerment.
Today, as the sole owner and primary therapist, I continue to carry that founding vision forward every day. My mission is to offer a deeply authentic, collaborative, and results-oriented space where adults, high performers, and elite athletes can heal, adapt, and build meaningful lives.
What Sitting in a Session With Me Actually Feels Like
If you have ever felt nervous about therapy, or felt misunderstood in past sessions, I want to demystify what working with me looks like.
Sitting in a session with me, whether in person at my Henderson, Las Vegas, or Summerlin offices, or virtually over video, feels like a safe, warm, and structured conversation with an authentic clinical partner.
No Cold Clinical Distance: I am direct, compassionate, and down-to-earth. You don't have to censor yourself or worry about judgment.
A Balance of Validation and Action: We will hold space for your painful experiences and honor where you are, but we will also focus heavily on practical solutions, coping skills, and tangible progress.
Collaborative & Grounded: You are the expert on your life, and I bring the clinical tools. We work as a team to help you regain clarity and peace.
Core Areas of Specialty
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Florida, my practice is informed by an extensive clinical background across diverse levels of care. Throughout my career, I have served individuals and families in community clinics for severe and persistent mental illness, youth residential and group homes, mobile crisis units, and youth intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs (IOP/PHP). I hold active memberships in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), alongside specialized credentials as a Clinical Anxiety Treatment Specialist and Certified Grief Counseling Specialist, with almost two decades of extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
As a direct result of this rich and varied clinical experience, I have developed my core specialty areas to provide targeted, highly effective care for adults navigating complex emotional challenges, high-stakes environments, and major life transitions.
Anxiety & Panic Treatment
Break Free from Chronic Worry & Overthinking
Anxiety often manifests as a constant loop of overthinking, physical chest tightness, racing thoughts, and catastrophic worry about the future. Using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and somatic grounding techniques, I help you quiet your nervous system, reframe anxious thought patterns, and regain a sense of grounded control in high-stress moments.
Depression & Burnout Recovery
Rebuild Motivation, Energy, and Emotional Balance
When you are continuously drained, disconnected, or mentally exhausted, simple daily tasks can feel insurmountable. My approach to depression and burnout recovery helps you uncover the underlying systemic and relational causes of your emotional fatigue. Together, we work to restore your vital energy, establish healthy boundary lines, and reconnect you with a meaningful sense of purpose.
Certified Grief & Loss Counseling
Honor Your Loss at Your Own Pace
Grief is a deeply personal journey that impacts your entire emotional and relational ecosystem. As a Certified Grief-Informed Professional, I provide a compassionate, pressure-free space to process profound loss, life-altering shifts, and bereavement. We move at your pace, honoring your unique timeline while building paths toward healing and adjustment.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) & DBT
Gain Emotional Stability & Build Healthy Adult Relationships
Living with intense mood swings, fear of abandonment, or relationship turbulence requires specialized clinical care. I utilize structured Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to equip you with concrete skills in distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness empowering you to navigate intense emotions and cultivate stable, fulfilling adult relationships.
Sports Performance & NFL Transition Therapy
Tailored Support for Active & Retired Professional Athletes
Elite athletics comes with high-stakes pressure, public scrutiny, and intense physical demands that standard therapy often overlooks. I provide confidential, specialized mental health counseling for collegiate, professional, active, and retired NFL players. Whether managing game-day anxiety, injury recovery, or the complex transition into life after sports, I help you reconstruct identity and build long-term resilience off the field.
My Clinical Philosophy: Systems Approach
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), my core framework is rooted in a Systems Approach. I believe that human beings do not exist in a vacuum. Your current stress, anxiety, burnout, or relationship patterns are intimately tied to the environments, family systems, cultural expectations, and career pressures you navigate daily.
During our sessions, my Systems Approach seamlessly integrates three specialized, evidence-based modalities:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): We look at how systemic stress impacts your emotional regulation. I teach you concrete skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness so you can manage intense emotions and build healthier adult relationships.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We examine the internal dialogue and thought loops that keep you feeling stuck, overthinking, or anxious, helping you reframe toxic narratives into actionable, empowered habits.
Grief-Informed Care: We acknowledge the systemic impact of loss (whether the death of a loved one, a divorce, an injury, or retiring from professional athletics) giving you permission to process grief at your own pace without feeling rushed.
My Passion for Mentoring Pre-Licensed Clinicians
My commitment to mental health care extends beyond my work with individual therapy clients. I am deeply passionate about elevating the quality of care across our entire community by mentoring the next generation of mental health professionals.
Through my Clinical Supervision & Professional Mentorship Program, I work closely with pre-licensed clinicians and associate therapists (CPC and MFT Interns) working toward Nevada licensure. I integrate direct career mentorship into clinical supervision, helping associates refine their DBT skillsets, handle complex diagnostic cases ethically, manage therapist burnout, and master the business of building a sustainable private practice.
Let’s Work Together.
Whether you are seeking relief from overwhelming anxiety, navigating an athlete career transition, processing a loss, or looking for clinical supervision, you don't have to walk the path alone. I invite you to reach out and discover how we can work together toward your goals.
“Psychotherapy is a journey of self-discovery, where the destination is not just healing, but a deeper understanding of oneself.”
